Omaha Zoo

Hi there,

Today I have a layout submitted to Soul Scrappers http://soul-scrappers.ning.com/ for their
Theme Challenge - Birthstones (THC53).  The deadline is Sept. 24, 2012

The requirements:
1.  One 5x7 black and white photo
2.  Use the color of your birthstone in your layout
3.  Add a description of the birth stone

I chose a sketch from http://www.scrap-a-little.com/ Sketch #43.

Here's my layout:

Here's my niece standing next to a gorilla (no, it isn't real-- phew)!  This was taken while on
a trip to the Omaha Zoo a couple years ago.  What a wonderful zoo!  We had such a great
time walking around and checking out all the different animals.

The photo is a 5x7 black and white.  Since my computer didn't print it very well, I used
vellum to cover the photo and all the imperfections of the print job disappeared!!
My niece's birthday is April and the Birthstone is Diamond, thus all the white.
The lower square describes her birthstone.
Of course, I had to choose the hardest birthstone to represent!!
It took me awhile to figure out how to make something look like a "diamond" but I
got it after awhile.  This layout took me forever to complete!  :)

Supplies used:
Paper: Colorbok, White Cardstock, Other
Flowers
Glitter Ribbon
Martha Stewart Border Punch
Alphabet Stamps: Studio g
Ink: A la mode Black
Decoupage
Fine Glitter
Computer Font: Vianta
Vellum
Vellum Adhesive

I used a small piece of glitter ribbon and knotted it for the flower center.

I used decoupage to coat each strip of cardstock, then used a very fine glitter to cover the paper.
Love the cool effect.  A bit messy, but worth it!  :)
I punched the pink strip of paper and used a strip of glitter ribbon on the lower part of the strip
of paper.

This photo shows the birthstone description and the flower with glitter ribbon.

Here's the photo with vellum over it.  Hard to tell, isn't it?  It's amazing how it "sharpened"
the photo!

Here are a couple photos of my glitter strips.  The glitter is supposed to represent
the DIAMOND Birthstone.

Thanks for looking and I hope you like it.
Libby  :)
