Gym Show

Hi there,

Woo hoo!  My layout was FEATURED (see below)!  How exciting is that?  I'm totally thrilled!!

This is the layout that was submitted at Colorful Creations for their "So You Think You Can Scrap" Challenge (SYTYCS05) - Week 5.  The deadline is February 7th.  I'm so happy to still be in the running.

A little info about this challenge:
Basically, each week a new challenge is posted and your layout must follow the guidelines to remain in the running.  A simple mistake overlooked can get you "out of the game."  It's a bit stressful.  I keep checking and re-checking everything before I post... but it's totally fun too!  I look forward to what challenge is next and hope I can remain in the running until it gets down to the "nitty gritty!"  :)

First off, here's the sketch for this week's challenge:
And here's the additional challenges you must add to your page:
Distressing, a recycled item and tearing.

This is what I created:
This is our grandson having fun and showing some skills using the parachute.  He was so excited to do this!  Each year the elementary level grades show their skills with various activities... such as tumbling, general gymnastics, basketball skills and fun games.  They have so much fun and it really is fun to watch!

** I used the sketch, distressing, paper tearing and recycled items.

Supplies used:
Paper: Colorbok, Debbie Mumm, Other
*Distressing
*Tearing
*Recycled Bread Ties
Buttons
Glitter Foam Shapes
Numbered squares cut from pp
Sharpie Marker
Dressmaking tool to paint circles
Folk Art White Paint
Plastic Word Squares
Font: Cricut Opposites Attract
Puffy Fabric heart
Rub ons
Folder Tab Stencil: Paper Pizazz

The numbered squares were distressed along the edges.  Various buttons were added and a plastic word tile.  I found a container of various foam shapes and decided they would look so cool and add even more fun to my page.

I added a red bread tie to one of the foam swirls.  A couple rub on zig zag strips were added onto the bread tie.  I have to add that rub ons don't work very well on this type of plastic.  I thought I was going to rub the "tool" into a new shape!  A popsicle stick worked a bit better, but I sure got my workout on this tiny bread tie!  :)

The folder tab was traced using a stencil and the edges distressed and was tucked under the yellow torn paper.

Above the photos is another grouping of buttons and foam shapes.  I added a white bread tie to this swirl and a puffy fabric heart.  I had to add a "heart" because, after all, it's my grandson!!  :)

The circle was matted and tucked under the torn piece of paper.  This photo shows a great look at the paint marks which were created using a dressmaker's tool/wheel.  So cool.  I ran the wheel through the paint and made a circle with it, going over it several times so it would show up better.

The journaling strips were cut wider so I could add two lines per strip.  The edges were distressed and after they were adhered to the page, I ran my hand over the strips to turn some edges.

Here's a different angle of the buttons and fun goodies!  Loved the little orange bear, so I added it on top of the button and foam swirl.  The word tile was also added on top of a couple buttons.

Here's a closer look at the rub ons onto the bread tie, paper tearing and distressing.

A star rub on was added on this white bread tie.  The other "marks" on the tie is from another rub on gone bad!  So I scraped it off with my fingernail and tried again!  Good grief!!

These foam shapes were self-adhesive, which made it so easy to adhere them!

I couldn't resist and had to add the #6, tucking it under the photo... for Dylan's age at this time.  :)

Thanks for stopping by.

Her Day

Hi there,

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

I just had to say that.  :)
Who's gonna win... Ravens or 49ers?  Who are you rooting for?

I have a few layouts to share.  And my first one was a submission at Archi-scraps for their February inspiration photo.  This is the photo:
And the criteria:
Use a close up of a person (head & shoulders)... and bling.

Pretty easy, right?
This is what I created, using a sketch from Scrap Friends.
I was inspired by the blue and the head... which looks like it's full of "layers."
This is our daughter right after her graduation from Basic Training.  It was a cold, rainy day but nothing was going to stop her smile!  This was "her day" to shine.  She did it... and we are so proud of her!!  She wanted it, she went for it and she got it!  Which proves that if you really want something bad enough, never give up... because you're on your way to getting it!!

Supplies used:
Paper: K&Co.
Various Flowers
Magic Mesh
Snow Globe Glitter Gems: Forever in Time
Pearl
Bling: Forever in Time
"Milestones" Metal Tag
Ribbon
Architexture Stone: Sticko
Color Mist: Wilton
Perfect Pearls Mists: Blue Smoke
Distressing
Tag
Recycled Gem
Title Stickers: Forever in Time

Love these foil embossed stickers!  They're so elegant!

A larger flower was tucked behind the photo and a gem was added for the center.  Great find in my stash, I believe this gem is from a necklace or earrings.  Swirly bling was added under each flower.  A glitter gem was added for the smaller flower.

Rather than take this flower apart, like I usually do, I thought it looked better intact.  I snipped off the stem in the back and glued the flower center in place.  The clear plastic string with pearls was added under the flower.

This large "leaf" was actually from a bouquet of large flowers.  They're absolutely beautiful as leaves.

I used a smaller petal as another leaf under this grouping and various flowers and gems.

here's a look at the right side of my page.  Under the "leaf" I added a texture shape/hinge, which was misted and tucked under the flowers.  On top of that I added a metal tag which says, "milestones" and added a knotted ribbon to that.

I recently purchased large paper doilies and used one as a stencil for my page and misted it.  Love how this turned out!  It's a very subtle mist, so it's not too drastic for my layout.

Lots of layers here with the journaling block distressed along the edges.

Here's the misting on the lower left of my page.

A closer look at the flowers.  I decided to add a touch of pink with this single flower and a pearl added to its center.

A better look at this beautiful blue flower.

A strip of Magic mesh was used under all the layers.  The small tag was misted and a ribbon, which was cut in half, was knotted through the hole.  The ribbon was too wide for the tag, so I cut it in half.  It shredded a bit, but it still works!

I was trying to get a better shot of the texture shape buried under the flowers... but that didn't work out very well.  It's a pretty cool circle/hinge, which was all white, so I added several mists on it.

Have a wonderful day!!

Great Travels

Hello,

Today was a "day reserved for me" to get totally annoyed with electronics!  If I didn't love my laptop, mouse and printer so much they would have been thrown out the door!!  One problem at a time would be nice.... but they all decided to go on the blink on the same day!  Grrrr!
After getting totally frustrated I unplugged and turned off everything... and as hard as it was for me to do... I walked away from it for awhile.
It worked!  I turned everything back on and "It's a Miracle!"  Everything settled down, including me!
Now if I could just "speed up" my laptop, I'd be golden!

Today's layout was submitted at Let's Get Sketchy for their January Week 4 Challenge.
Here's the sketch:

This is what I created:

This is Linda and I on our way to climb Katahdin.  A very long hike/climb... around 12 hours... but the view at the top is absolutely gorgeous!  All you see is beauty everywhere... absolutely amazing.

Supplies used:
Paper: K&Co., Colorbok
Distressing
Twine
Tag
Die Cuts
Butterflies cut from pp
EK Success Border Punch
Color Mists: Wilton
Perfect Pearls Mists
Staples

The three strips were distressed and misted.  Twine was knotted around two of the strips and the middle strip has a thin piece of paper folded for a trim.

The butterflies were cut from cardstock paper that I found in my stash.  I folded the wings and adhered them to the page only in the centers.

The tag has a grouping of leaves and a large compass which was distressed and misted.  A tree cardstock die cut was distressed a bit and the tips slightly turned up.  Leaves were added around the compass.

Twine was wrapped in a circle and stapled at the top of the tag.

The border punched edges were distressed and misted.  The title was cut from pp.  And you can see a little of the misting.

Here's the right side of my page, giving you a glimpse of the dimension.

Here's a better look at the left side of my page... and the Pearl misting.

Hope you had a better day than me!
Happy crafting!

Wanted Dead or Alive

Hi there!
Happy February to you all!  I'm looking forward to a great scrapping month... and a few other things too!

Yesterday I had to make the dreaded trip to run errands.  Well, I had a Dentist appointment too.  Yay... no cavities!  :)
Anyhow, I have a short story before I get to the real purpose of my post.

It was a rainy and windy day yesterday.  It wasn't raining too badly after my appointment, so I decided to hit the Dollar Tree and see what fun Valentine's Day items I could get (heheheheheh).
It started raining a little harder.... but that's ok.  A little rain never hurt anyone... especially not me... after being caught in downpours many times!  And wind, well, we have lots of that too.  No problem.
So, I took one step out the door and BAM!  I got plastered with a sheet of rain that the wind had blown.  Perfect timing!  I was drenched in about 2 seconds.  I looked like a drowned rat.  I had one more errand to run... which got me even wetter.  By now I was chilled... so I decided to turn up the heat and head home.  Forget about the other errands.  I was done for today.  The wind was blowing at around 50 mph and everyone looked like they were driving drunk, trying to keep their cars on the road.
That was my fun event from yesterday.

Now for my layout that was submitted at Colorful Creations  for the challenge that I happen to be hosting.
The Song Challenge for February is "Wanted Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi.
Who doesn't love Bon Jovi, right?

Here's the lyrics to their song:
Wanted Dead Or Alive
Songwriters: Jon Bon Jovi/Richard Sambora

It's all the same, only the names will change
Everyday it seems we're wasting away
Another place where the faces are so cold
I'd drive all night just to get back home

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted dead or alive
Wanted dead or alive

Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days
And the people I meet always go their separate ways
Sometimes you tell the day
By the bottle that you drink
And times when you're alone all you do is think

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive
Wanted (wanted) dead or alive

Oh! And I ride!

I'm A cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted) Dead or alive

Now I walk these streets, this six string in my hand
Still playin' for keeps, 'same old me same old band,
I been everywhere, and I'm standing tall
I've seen a million faces (seen an awful lot of faces)

I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive
I'm a cowboy, I got the night on my side
I'm wanted (wanted) dead or alive
And I ride, dead or alive
I still drive, dead or alive

My challenge is very simple:
You must use a word, several words, a sentence, title song, verse or whole song, somewhere on your project.  Open to all crafters, you can create whatever you wish... layout, digital, card, mini album, altered item or tag.  The deadline for submitted your entry is February 28th.

Here's what I created using a sketch from C.C. by Brenshevia.
Yes, this is me... in my finest flannel pj's!  Please read the story below... so you can have a laugh!  :)

Journaling reads:
This photo was taken (a long time ago) by our son who was goofing off with the camera.  As you can tell in the photos, I was trying to grab the camera from him.  All in fun, I brought it to work to show Julie and we had a good laugh about it.  Some time later, after I had forgotten about the photo, I was walking into the office where I used to work, I noticed that everyone was grinning and snickering at me.  Hmmmmm, I wonder what's going on.  As always, I head straight to my office.  Then I saw our boss stopping in the hall to read the bulletin board (which was right outside my office).  I figured I should check it out too.  He snickered and said "something" (boy, I wish I could remember what he said)!  Julie had copied my photo and made 8 1/2 x 11 posters that she posted randomly in our office building, including both bathrooms!  She even wrote all these clever little "wanted" sayings on each one!  "Juuliieeeeeee!"  She sure had fun with this joke, at my expense!  Yes, she's still my best friend!

Supplies used:
Paper: DCWV, K&Co.
Cork board
Distressing
Stickers: Creative Imaginations
Cardstock Die Cuts: from Internet
Washi tape: Hand Made
Sharpie Marker
Perfect Pearls Mists: Biscotti, Gold, Pearl
Mister Huey's Mists: Dewey, Clay
Color Mists: Wilton - Pearl

I added a small strip of sticker under the "badge."

Here are the 3 "posters" which were re-sized and printed onto cardstock.

Journaling is under the "Reward" sub title, which was printed from the internet onto cardstock.

I matted the title onto pp and cork board.

The journaling was added under my subtitle (Reward), as a little booklet.

A look at the left side of my page, in which you can see all the layering and distressing.

Here's my little grouping of handcuffs/key, hat, badge and an oval "Wanted!" sticker.  The edges were distressed and all pieces misted.

I just had to add a strip of the washi tape I made.  Looks cool on the cork board.

A closer look at the puffy sticker hinge that was added to my journaling block.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by!
